Connecting local engineering capability with world-leading research.

Through collaboration with international researchers and technology partners, SkyStrike develops practical solutions for drought, flooding rains, and extreme environmental conditions while supporting regional manufacturing growth.

SkyStrike – Weather-Resilient Technologies

SkyStrike is a Central Queensland initiative advancing weather-resilient technologies, aerospace systems, and environmental monitoring solutions.

Operating within the Strategic Industries Alliance network, SkyStrike brings together engineers, manufacturers, researchers, and industry partners to develop technologies that help industries operate in extreme environmental conditions.

Australia has long been described as “a land of droughts and flooding rains.”

These environmental extremes create unique challenges for agriculture, infrastructure, and industrial operations across regional Australia.

SkyStrike responds to these challenges by developing practical technologies designed to operate in harsh environments while strengthening local engineering and manufacturing capability.

By integrating advanced manufacturing, unmanned aircraft systems, digital sensors, and environmental monitoring technologies, SkyStrike supports innovation across agriculture, emergency response, infrastructure, defence, and industrial sectors.

A Central Queensland Innovation Platform

SkyStrike brings together engineers, manufacturers, researchers, and industry partners to design, prototype, and manufacture technologies that improve resilience to extreme weather conditions.

The initiative focuses on developing practical systems and equipment that can operate reliably across large and challenging environments, supporting agriculture, infrastructure, environmental monitoring, and disaster response.

Through collaboration with manufacturers, research institutions, and industry partners, SkyStrike aims to:

  • Develop technologies designed for drought, flooding, and extreme environmental conditions
  • Support local manufacturing of weather-resilient equipment and systems
  • Advance drone and aerial monitoring technologies
  • Strengthen environmental monitoring and data capabilities
  • Build regional engineering capability for resilience technologies

Key Areas of Focus

Unmanned Aircraft Systems & Environmental Monitoring

SkyStrike supports the development of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and advanced aerial technologies designed to operate in challenging environmental conditions.

These technologies can support a wide range of applications including:

  • Precision agriculture and crop monitoring
  • Flood mapping and environmental monitoring
  • Infrastructure inspection and remote surveying
  • Disaster response and emergency operations
  • Industrial and defence applications

By integrating aerial systems with advanced sensors and data platforms, SkyStrike enables more efficient monitoring of large and remote landscapes.

Weather-Resilient Engineering & Equipment

SkyStrike focuses on engineering solutions designed to operate in environments affected by drought, flooding, and extreme weather.

Areas of development include:

  • High-clearance and terrain-adapted equipment
  • Portable flood management and pumping systems
  • Modular infrastructure designed for extreme conditions
